Searching for Imposters, a sculptural video installation, installed at the DeCordova Museum as part of Walden, revisited exhibition.

SEARCHING FOR IMPOSTERS is a sculptural video installation, first shown at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA in the exhibition, WALDEN. Along the wall, there are 3 turned wood viewing vessels, through with the videos can be seen and heard. The videos are from among several short films made beneath the surface of a body of water that have personal meaning. This was filmed in Walden Pond, where a small piece of plastic floats in the pond. Making ripples in the surface of the pond, refracting the light, made the plastic seem to come to life, in pulses of light. The work aims to confront what is present with sensitivity, and deep listening. Thoreau’s Walden invites and inspires many to step into this preserved piece of land with reverence, embracing both what is here, and what is not here. Under the water it felt important to notice what was not here (fish), and what was here (plastic), and try to just soak it in.
