Jerry Russo’s extensive and tender project interviewing many artists in the region, about how they navigated the pandemic. (Correction: I was born in Houston, TX and grew up in New York. I don’t know why I said I was born in New York! ). All the interviews can be found at UMass Amherst in the Robert S. Cox Special Collections. Here’s me talking with Jerry.

Embracing the Light: An Afternoon Solstice Meditation

Presented by Mount Auburn Cemetery, created and curated by MASARY Studios

2pm Deep Listening

Deb Todd Wheeler will facilitate a Deep Listening meditation as part of the Summer Solstice event, a collaboration between MASARY Studios and Mount Auburn Cemetery (580 Mt Auburn St, Cambridge, MA 02138) on the afternoon of June 21, 2022. This event will take place rain or shine - outdoors in ‘Hazel Dell’, off of Central Ave in the Cemetery, or inside of Story Chapel.

This event is a meditation on light, that is a nod and recognition of the cosmic moment marking a turn of the earth, our seasons, and acknowledging the turning point in the cycles we are constantly experiencing. Propelled by light and reflection, this event is being created to hold space for that, for the community to attend and drop into that attitude to reflect on their own inner world, our ecosystem, and greater cosmic atmospheres.

Sound Collecting

Alnoba 24 Cottage Road
Kensington, NH 03833 United States

In this session we will engage in a series of exercises aimed to expand our listening range. Sound composer Pauline Oliveros wrote,“Sounds carry intelligence. Ideas, feelings, and memories are triggered by sound. If you are too narrow in your awareness of sounds, you are likely to be disconnected from your environment. ..[if] too much information is coming into the auditory cortex, or habit has narrowed listening to only what seems of value and concern to the listening, all else is tunedout or discarded as garbage.”. In this session of SOUND COLLECTING, we will engage in several of Pauline Oliveros’ Deep Listening exercises, examining our own awarenesses and self-imposed limitations in the local sonisphere.

This is a ticketed fundraiser to benefit Alnoba’s public park and playspace, Sawyer Park

Join us with musicians and artists

She Gets Lost

How can we linger in a space of reclamation and step into the sacred work of grief-tending?

Deb Todd Wheeler will discuss her long form project, Radio Silence, a guided, geo-located audiowalk through the Lost Pond, a sanctuary space outside of Boston, MA. Since 2019 she has guided hundreds of walkers, one or two at a time, through the trails of the Lost Pond, where personal and environmental histories collide with present moment engagement in sound, song, site, source, and lament. Her soon to be released Radio Silence: Book of Walks is a meditation on the palimpsest of impressions collected from the repeat act of walking, talking, listening, witnessing through the years.
